British is finding it difficult to maintain a queen.

As time goes by there are changes in the society and unless you keep up with it you may face eviction in your status or dignity.


Have you heard about the civil list ?
It is the list of people who are paid by the government.The sum paid is for the expenses associated with performing state duties and it includes the staffing, state visits, public engagements, official entertainment, and upkeep of the Royal households.


In UK people in Civil list includes the Queen, and presently there has been no hike in her pay. Normally it is revised every decade, but there has been no hike since 1990 and there are reports from Queen's treasurer Sir Alex Reid that the present expenditure exceeds by 7 million pounds from the present pay of 9.7 million pounds.


Above figures should not mislead to think that queen is a spend thrift or as a big spender as there are reports that Queen uses money judiciously and that her spending in the period from 1990 - 2000 had resulted in savings of  35 million pounds but it has been used in the past decade and is likely to be exhausted by 2012.


Some time back i had posted about british library in india being scrapped and online version were to reappear despite the public resent and impact on the goodwill.


What is evident is that UK is severely hit with a financial crisis and they are unable to get over it. Rigid entities like the queen are the causalities. As the report said that government is concerned about the public outrage regarding the hike in pay as per civil list while the country is undergoing a recession.


Sometime back i read that J K Rowling the author of Harry potter was richer than the queen. so presently the queen is not the richest for sure.
